The Herkimer County Land Bank was established in 2024 by the Herkimer County Legislature to facilitate the process of acquiring, improving, and redistributing tax-foreclosed, vacant, donated or abandoned properties. The Land Bank is a nonprofit organization committed to revitalizing neighborhoods and strengthening communities throughout Herkimer County. The Land Bank uses grant funding to support property demolitions, acquisitions, stabilizations, lot improvements, and rehabilitation projects and works in partnership with state and local government, non-profits, residents, community groups, and responsible developers and investors to return properties to productive use and support community development.

The New York Land Bank Association, Inc., established in 2015, supports land banks across the state by fostering collaboration, sharing resources, and providing technical assistance. It serves as a vital network to inform local governments, citizens, and stakeholders about land banks, while promoting strategies to revitalize communities and further the mission of land banks throughout New York.
