The mission of the Herkimer County Land Bank Corporation is to address vacant, abandoned and blighted properties located within Herkimer County. Local governments alone do not have sufficient resources or tools by which to identify, stabilize, rehabilitate and resell such properties, nor to undertake the process of deconstruction or demolition of those buildings that are beyond reasonable repair. The Land Bank would act in conjunction with local governments, and other not-for-profit groups to leverage all available resources to revitalize all Herkimer County communities.
The New York Land Bank Association, Inc., established in 2015, supports land banks across the state by fostering collaboration, sharing resources, and providing technical assistance. It serves as a vital network to inform local governments, citizens, and stakeholders about land banks, while promoting strategies to revitalize communities and further the mission of land banks throughout New York.
